Sarah Billings Wheeler is a dance teacher in New York City, with extensive experience as a performer, choreographer and dance educator covering a range of dance styles.
After spending her youth studying Ballet with Sherry Adams (founding director of the Vermont Chamber Ballet Company) and Mireille Briane and Oleg Briansky, Sarah moved on to Modern Dance while an undergraduate at Barnard College. At Barnard she studied Graham technique with Ellen Graff, Taylor Technique with Carolyn Adams and danced for guest choreographers (Jody Oberfelder).
Sarah continued to train in both Ballet and Modern Dance in New York City before discovering the world of DanceSport. For over a decade, she was a dance teacher in nyc, and competed and performed in regional, national and international competitions. During that time, she worked for several years as a teaching artist with American Ballroom Theater’s ‘Dancing Classrooms’ outreach program in the New York City Public Schools. Sarah then joined the New York City Department of Education as a High School Dance teacher.
Many of Sarah's highly regarded dance teachers include: Evee Lynn (Ballet), Jan Miller (Ballet), Finis Jhung (Ballet), Cynthia Reynolds (Hawkins), Victorio Korjhan (Flamenco), Yvonne Marceau and Pierre Dulling (Adagio), Peter di Falco (Ballroom), and June McMurdo (International Latin).
A founding member of Guerrilla Dance Collective in New York City, for whom she has choreographed two site-specific works, Sarah has also choreographed for a wide range of entities, including major studio franchises, elite dance schools and DanceSport competitors.
